Grumeti River Camp is a luxury tented camp with ten spacious tents, whose ragged thatch canopy lends coolness and solidity, while still providing all the thrill of a tented safari.
Located in a remote valley in the western corridor of the Serengeti, the camp overlooks a tributary of the Grumeti River where, once a year, several thousands of blue wildebeest plunge into the river to run the gauntlet of enormous crocodiles, on their annual migration. However, with plenty of resident wildlife throughout the year and a quiet location, Grumeti is a wonderful camp to visit at any time of year.
Ten twin-bedded tents are luxuriously decorated with flamboyant local cloth and sculptured furnishings, and equipped with fans and en suite bathrooms with shower, basin and flushing toilet. Each tent looks out into the bush beyond and there is also a fabulous circular pool from which to enjoy the view or just relax during the midday heat. After retiring at the end of a starlit banquet, where stories are shared of the day’s wildlife sightings, you can listen to evocative sounds of the African bush at night: lions roaring, leopards coughing and hippos grunting in nearby pools.
