Grumeti River Camp is a luxury tented camp with ten spacious tents, whose ragged thatch canopy lends coolness and solidity, while still providing all the thrill of a tented safari.
Located in a remote valley in the western corridor of the Serengeti, the camp overlooks a tributary of the Grumeti River where, once a year, many thousands of blue wildebeest plunge into the waters to run the gauntlet of gigantic crocodiles, on their annual migration. However, with plenty of resident wildlife throughout the year and a quiet location, Grumeti is a wonderful camp to visit at any time of year.
Ten spacious twin-bedded tents are luxuriously decorated with flamboyant local cloth and sculptured furnishings, and equipped with fans and en suite bathrooms comprising shower, basin and flushing toilet. Each looks out into the bush beyond and there is also a fabulous circular pool from which to enjoy the view or just relax during the midday heat. After retiring at the end of a starlit banquet, where stories are shared of the day’s game sightings, you can listen to evocative sounds of the African bush at night: lion roaring, leopard coughing and hippo grunting in nearby pools.
