Nestled on the banks of the Zambezi River in Chiawa Game Management area, not far from the entrance to Lower Zambezi National Park, this luxury tented camp offers an authentic safari experience.

This stretch of the 2,700-kilometre-long Zambezi is the only part with a national park on each bank of the river: Lower Zambezi National Park in Zambia and, on the Zimbabwean side, the famed Mana Pools - a UNESCO World Heritage Site. The riverfront along the entire length of the property offers fine views over the water and regular sightings of buffalo, elephant, hippo and crocodile.

Part of the camp has lovely well-kept gardens with a swimming pool and colourful indigenous plants, whereas the bush side is linked to the main lodge by elevated walkways that allow wildlife to pass freely. The main living area and deck nestle among tamarind trees - a perfect location to watch the river and the wildlife on Nyamangwe Island.

Eight classic tents are built on wooden decks with an en suite bathroom with flushing toilet and powerful hot-water shower. These large, luxury, walk-in tented chalets have either two single beds or a king-size bed, and are tastefully decorated in African style. The honeymoon suite has similar facilities, plus a sumptuous four-poster double bed, an open-air bath built from natural stone, and an elevated deck that offers maximum privacy with a stunning 270-degree panorama.

For a family, or anyone who wants an exclusive safari experience, the beautifully finished Hippo Pod boasts handpicked furniture made by local craftsman, which creates a unique atmosphere. Two large bedrooms - each with en suite bath and shower - are connected by a lounge (which converts to provide extra sleeping space, if needed); the master bedroom has a kingsize double bed, and the other twin beds. A secluded deck with sun loungers and a private dining area overlook the Zambezi.

Activities include game drives, walking safaris, canoe safaris, boat trips on the river and a cultural visit to the local community.
