Close to the Mozambique shore, the small island of Likoma is reached by a short flight or by boat and offers a charming retreat on the shores of Lake Malawi.

Voted in the top ten 'Most Romantic Places in the World' by Condé Nast, Kaya Mawa consists of ten thatched cottages, scattered around a rocky promontory beside a crescent of white sand, surrounded by mango and ancient baobab trees.

Each has a four-poster bed, en-suite bathroom and terrace with views out over the lake. Most water-sports are on offer here, and mountain bikes and quad bikes are available, but relaxing is the order of the day in these tranquil surroundings.
