Bandhavgarh - Kings Lodge

Kings Lodge is a comfortable jungle lodge located in Rancha village, just 15 minutes drive from Bandhavgarh National Park. Four cottage rooms and four stilt rooms are spread out throughout a 10 acre estate. All rooms are air-conditioned and equipped with en-suite bathrooms, a large verandah with great views, a writing area and iron stoves for cold weather. The stilted rooms have a special wooden lofted balcony for star-gazing. A multi-cuisine dining hall has wonderful views of wild grasslands and the forested Sal hills. As well as the twice daily game drives, there are also nature and bird walks with a resident naturalist, and cycling safaris. Alternatively, you may prefer to keep a lookout in the game-watching tower, or relax and unwind with a massage or swim in the pool.

    Bandhavgarh National Park was formerly a royal hunting reserve of the princely state of Rewe where the first White Tiger in the wild was ever found. The Park is situated in 450 square kilometres of mixed forest in a remote part of Madhya Pradesh in central India. The park is famous for its Tiger population but many other mammals are found here including: Chital, Sambar, Muntjac, Nilgai, Chinkara, Chowsingha (Four-horned Antelope), Wild Boar, Leopard and Dhole. Birdlife also abounds with over 275 species of bird including hornbills, orioles, parakeets, peacocks, and eagles. Wildlife viewing is on Elephant back and by jeep. The official 2006 park census puts the tiger population at 63.

    Bandhavgarh is reached by private road transfer from Kanha (six hours) or Khajaraho (six hours). There are also overnight trains from Delhi/Agra to Umaria Station, plus a road transfer of one hour. (Transfer times are dependent on road conditions which are variable.) Bandhavgarh is closed during the breeding season, which coincides with the monsoon (July - mid October).
