  • Location:

Jaipur is known as the 'Pink City' due to the 'pink-washed' buildings in the traditional Rajasthani colour of welcome. There is much to see here from the old and new royal palaces, to the intricate buildings and the vibrant colourful bazaars. The highlight is the 16th century fortified palace of Amber Fort. You can walk though the maze-like harem quarters and view the once luxurious marble rooms, many still bedecked in mirrors and stained glass. The ancient Persian carpets that once covered the floors and walls can be seen in the City Palace museum along with a spectacular display of armory and paintings. If you are lucky you might even catch a glimpse of the current Maharaja who still lives in the palace. You will also see the wondrous observatory and often photographed Palace of the Winds.

Jaipur has good road connections and is half a day's drive from Delhi or Ranthambhore or a whole day's drive from Agra. There are also some domestic air connections.
