Tangala House
Victoria Falls, Zambia
Tangala House is a large family home right on the banks of the Zambezi River, 15 kilometres upstream from the Falls. It offers views over Zambezi National Park where large herds of Elephant come down to drink, and Hippo's are regularly seen and heard. Tangala sleeps up to eight in four bedrooms, has its own private swimming pool, and is ideal for families - with glass windows all round designed to keep insects out.

Location:
No trip to Southern Africa is complete without a visit to the spectacular Victoria Falls, one of the wonders of the natural world. Livingstone and Victoria Falls Town are two small towns located on either side of the falls. Livingstone is a small, bustling town in Zambia, whilst Victoria Falls Town is just over the border in Zimbabwe. Attractions and activities in both towns revolve around the Victoria Falls themselves which straddle the border for over a mile. The mist and spray rise high into the air and the roar from trillions of gallons of water plunging over the precipice into the gorge below can be heard for miles around. The two towns (and countries) are linked via a spectacular iron bridge suspended 300 feet above the raging waters below, which has become a pilgrimage for the brave bungee jumpers who hurl themselves off it for fun!
You can view the falls in both countries from walkways where rainbows gleam through gaps in the dripping rainforest and occasional torrents of water are blown across the paths. The sheer size of the falls means that the best way to view them is undoubtedly from the air and there are various scenic flights on offer from small aircrafts to helicopters and, most exciting of all, micro-lights. All give fabulous views of the falls and the surrounding national park. Other popular activities include: white-water rafting, canoe trips, and Elephant-back safaris.
The falls are at their peak around March and April, when the water and spray shower down on the walkways and you are guaranteed to get absolutely soaked! Later in the dry season the water over the falls is less, but visibility is better at ground level and this is when you can walk across the rocks on the Zambian side to Livingstone Island to sit and wonder at the spectacle. It is relatively simple to cross over the bridge to view the falls from the opposite side as immigration are used to visitors making day trips and a charge is levied in US dollars. The area is served by airports in both Livingstone and Victoria Falls Town, and it is just a few hours drive from here to Chobe National Park in Botswana. With various regional flight options, Victoria Falls is easily added on to most southern Africa safaris and the wide range of hotels and luxury lodges in the area make it the perfect end to any holiday.
