Peru
Peru is the third largest of all the South American countries and has much to offer the naturalist. The long coastline is bordered by desert, which slowly gives way to the mighty Andes forming the backbone of the country before slipping down to the hot and humid jungle of the Amazon basin. This geographical variation means that a whole host of different habitats have emerged with creatures as diverse as penguins, sloths and macaws all living within one country's borders. While national parks have been established and the tourist infrastructure improved to handle the demand, there are still vast tracts of unexplored land and masses of pristine rainforest holding undiscovered plant and animal species. Combine this with the country's rich Inca and colonial history and you can see why now is the perfect time to 'rediscover Peru'.
