Icebergs

Great Antarctic Explorers

Don't be perturbed by the recent events in Antarctic waters. How about travelling in the footsteps of some of the nations greatest explorers on the 'Great Antarctic Explorers' trip. Travelling by the ice-breaker ship, the Kapitan Khlebnikov, you will travel to the Ross Sea region of Antarctica and visit some of the historic huts and sites inhabited by Sir Ernest Shackleton and Robert Falcon Scott. You will be accompanied by Adrian Raeside, grandson of Sir Charles Wright, physicist and glaciologist on the 1910 Scott expedition.

Departing from New Zealand, the ship will stop at the wildlife-rich islands of Campbell and Enderby for Royal Albatross and Yellow-eye Penguin sightings. Ross Sea sightings can include Minke and Orca Whales and abundant groups of Adelie Penguins. Royal Penguins can be seen on the return leg to Tasmania.

Evening at the Hawk Conservancy - Chris Packham

Chris Packham and Owls at the Hawk Conservancy

Up to 40 people braved the autumnal Hampshire downpours and joined Wildlife Worldwide at the Hawk Conservancy in Andover on Tuesday 20th November for a presentation by local naturalist, wildlife photographer and television presenter Chris Packham. Participants at the event enjoyed drinks and warm canapes on arrival at the Conservancy, prior to Chris's lively talk which was then followed by a series of beautiful owl flight demonstrations in the woodland area.

Humpback Whale

Whales Are Friends Not Food

Sunday 18th November was the day that marked the Japanese nation's decision to extend their unbearable whale hunting programme with the inclusion now of Humpback Whales. The Japanese market by all accounts have now forsaken their traditional meal of whale meat, in favour of western style food but this will not prevent the belligerent Fisheries Agency from continuing their butchery of these marvellous creatures in the name of science. If you would like to support whale-watching programmes and experience the wonder of a Humpback Whale sighting, marvelling at these huge mammals as they cavort expressively in the oceans then how about a trip to Newfoundland for a Whale Study Week.

Mel Kinder and Family in Zambia

Family Time in Zambia

Mel Kinder and family took advantage of the children's extended October half term holiday to take a 10 day trip to Zambia. Having been to the country 12 years earlier, before the children arrived, expectations were already set high. The trip took in two popular areas - the South Luangwa and the Lower Zambezi, staying in lodges rather than remote camps due to the children being just below the age for walking safaris (which is 12). As it turns out the children matched or even surpassed the parents in terms of stamina and sometimes photography skills!

Mel & Neil Kinder - Marathon

Marathon Thanks

Mel and Neil Kinder would like to extend a big thank you to all the Wildlife Worldwide customers who so generously sponsored us for the ING New York City Marathon on November the 4th in aid of 'Save the Rhino International'. Our sponsorship page (www.justgiving.com/kinder) is still active until the end of the year but to date we have raised just over £2,000, including cheque and cash donations, for the charity. The experience of the race was superb, although we both found the last few miles particularly gruelling! The conditions were perfect (especially as a hurricane had been forecast to pass nearby the day earlier!) and the New York crowd need to be experienced to be believed, pulling everyone along with their unstinting exuberance. We passed the 26.2 mile finish line in 4:01 and 3:41 respectively.
