Brazil - Prolific Wildlife in the Pantanal

From June to October it is dry season in the Pantanal. This means that the rains cease and the rivers return to their natural beds. Thousands of fish become imprisoned in lagoons, serving as an excellent source of food to birds, Caimans and Giant Otters. The mammals that had migrated on the rainy season start to return to the plain fields. It is the best time to observe wildlife and there'll be plenty of opportunities to do so, as the Pantanal holds over 124 species of mammals, 177 of reptiles, 650 of birds and 230 of fish. Rare species can include Manned Wolves, Giant Anteaters, Tapirs, Jaguars and Giant River Otters. Visitors can also become involved in conservation projects to help the endangered species of the Brazilian Rainforest and Savana areas: the Jaguar, the Golden Lion Tamarin and the Hyacinth Macaw.

Sarah - one of our consultants will be providing a full report about her trip to this destination in next months eNews. For more information please call us directly on 0845 130 6982.

Mexico - Migrating Whales off Baja

Sheltered by low barrier islands, Magdalena Bay, on the south-west coast of the peninsula, provides a perfect winter home to hundreds of Grey Whales during their annual migration from feeding grounds in the Arctic. Here, you can witness, from sea or shore, one of nature's most awe-inspiring sights as these majestic creatures roll, breach and tend to their young in the temperate waters. Reaching up to 16 metres in length, the Grey Whales are renowned for their playfulness and curiosity as they swim close to the boats.

From early February until the end of April you will have the opportunity to see Blue, and Grey Whales, Minke, Humpback, Pilot, Orca and Fin Whales. Take a break from the endless grey skies of winter - take a tip from the whales and migrate to Mexico!
