Spend a week with world-renowned 'Big Cat' cameraman and photographer Warren Samuels to capture the Masai Mara’s incredibly prolific wildlife and stay in one of the best locations in the Reserve.

Exploring with Warren and being able to access his specialist knowledge and vast experience allows you to hone your wildlife photography skills under his expert guidance and tuition, and will leave you with a photographic record of excellent images.

Warren knows the Mara and its wildlife intimately, so you are guaranteed excellent sightings. On game drives the emphasis will always be on the photography of big cats, yet there will inevitably be opportunities to photograph and/or film the Mara’s many other animals, as well as the 500 or so species of birds found here.

Typical Itinerary

  1. Day 1: Depart UK

  2. Day 2: Arrive Nairobi, fly to Masai Mara

On arrival in Nairobi, you will be met and transferred to Wilson Domestic Airport. Fly by light aircraft to Musiara airstrip (around 45 minutes) in the Masai Mara, where vehicles will meet the flight and drive the short distance to your accommodation. Once you have settled in and had an introductory briefing, the rest of the morning is free to relax until lunch. In the afternoon you head out in four-wheel-drive safari vehicles for your first game drive, returning in time for dinner.

    Accommodation: Governors’ Private Camp, 7-nights

  3. Days 3-7 : Vehicle safaris & photography tuition

During your stay the rhythm of each day is similar, an early morning game drive accompanied by Warren, with a picnic breakfast out in the bush, before returning to camp for lunch, after which there is time to relax, read, write your journal, download photos or take a siesta until mid-afternoon tea. You set off again for a late afternoon game drive that lasts until sunset, returning to camp in time for dinner.

Each day’s itinerary is deliberately kept as flexible as possible to take full advantage of whatever photographic highlights present themselves.

Our October departure coincides with the Great Migration, an astonishing sight when huge herds of wildebeest and zebra travel to the Mara from the now-dry Serengeti in Tanzania, in search of fresh grazing. All the while the region's big cats are waiting to prey on the weak in the herds - an incredible wildlife experience and an excellent photographic opportunity.

During your stay you can enjoy quality time with Warren, which will include:

    • Photographic instruction in the safari vehicle each day

    • Evening slide presentations illustrating the art of taking good wildlife pictures

    • Photographic image appraisal sessions

    • Screening of wildlife documentaries that Warren has been involved in, together with a brief lecture on the making of of each particular film.

    • Extra coaching outside game drives in the camp's photo gallery.

During photography tuition sessions, the group wil be split into two small groups, alternating between Warren and another professional photographer for a highly personalised session.

Aside from photography, during your stay there may be an opportunity to visit a traditional Masai manyatta (additional cost, payable locally).

  4. Day 8: Fly to Nairobi

After a final early morning activity, you transfer back to Musiara airstrip and fly by light aircraft to Nairobi Wilson airport, where you will be overnight at a nearby hotel. The evening is free to enjoy a relaxed dinner and reflect on the week's activities.

    Accommodation: Hotel in Nairobi, 1-night

  5. Day 9: Fly back to the UK

Early this morning you will be transferred to nearby Jomo Kenyatta International Airport to check in for a daytime flight back to the UK.

You should note: There is a maximum baggage allowance of 15 kg per person on domestic flights to/from Masai Mara, including hand baggage and photographic equipment. Only soft luggage will be accepted on these flights.
