Known as The Land of the Giants, Mashatu Game Reserve comprises a vast cross boundary conservation area protecting more than 50 species of mammal and over 350 bird species.

Named after the magnificent Mashatu trees which range throughout the reserve, Mashatu’s privately owned 30,000 hectares offers the chance of viewing no fewer than seven of the continent’s giants. Large populations of African elephant and eland, lion, giraffe, ostrich, and Africa’s heaviest flying bird, the kori bustard, may all be seen here, as well as that icon of the African savannah, the baobab tree.

In addition to 4x4 game drives, mountain biking and walking safaris bring you into closer contact with the region’s fascinating wildlife – from the majestic lion to the smaller genet cat – whilst a number of hides provide excellent photographic opportunities from ground level, and often at close range.
