This voyage, aboard the Mechudo catamaran, sails the Sea of Cortez following the migratory paths of various whales, including blue and fin.

Enjoy a relaxing and comfortable week’s sailing experience with a small group of like-minded whale enthusiasts, through a stunning archipelago from La Paz, observing a great diversity of marine mammals including the blue whale, fin whale and bottlenose dolphin.

This exclusive voyage will combine activities such as snorkelling, hiking, birding walks and whale watching, each supported by the expertise of your on-board naturalist guide.

Typical Itinerary

  1. Day 1: Depart UK

    Depart the UK on an overnight flight to La Paz via Mexico City.

  2. Day 2: Arrive La Paz

    Upon arrival in La Paz you will transfer from the airport to your hotel, and the rest of the day is free to explore this charming town.

    Accommodation: Hotel La Perla, 1-night

  3. Day 3: Board Mechudo catamaran

    You spend the day at leisure and then in the late afternoon transfer to the marina to board the Mechudo. You are then free for the evening to enjoy your first Mexican dinner in a local restaurant.

    Accommodation: Mechudo, 6-nights

  4. Days 4-8 : Sailing cruise in the Sea of Cortez

    For the next five days you cruise the Sea of Cortez and, depending on weather conditions and the whales’ locations, will visit a selection of islands including Isla Catalan, Isla San Francisco, Isla Santa Cruz, Agua Verde, Isla San Jose, Isla Espiritu Santo and Los Islotes.

    Known as the mini Galapagos, the Sea of Cortez offers a great diversity of wildlife and your naturalist guide will take you on guided walks and bird watching tours, looking for the magnificent frigatebird, blue-footed booby, brown pelican, red-billed tropicbird and storm petrel. In addition, your whale encounters may include the elusive blue whale, the fin whale and bottlenose dolphin.

    Every day your naturalist guide will provide lectures on the incredible marine ecology and natural history of this UNESCO World Heritage Site.

  5. Day 9: Sail to La Paz

    Today you will sail back to the mainland, disembarking at La Paz. On arrival you will be transferred to your hotel and have the rest of the day at leisure.

    Accommodation: Hotel La Perla, 1-night

  6. Day 10: Depart La Paz

    Transfer to the airport for an overnight flight back to the UK.

  7. Day 11: Arrive UK

It is thought to be one of the most diverse seas on the planet with the widest variety of whales and dolphins, and nearly 900 species of fish.
