African Beach Extension - Mozambique

Situated some 20 kilometres off the Mozambique mainland is the conservation area of the Bazaruto Archipelago. The islands boast beautiful sandy beaches where Dugong feed in the clear shallow waters alongside Loggerhead, and Green Turtles, and the coral reefs sparkle with dazzling fish. Birdwatchers will also be delighted by the numerous species of birds which include European Oystercatcher, Ringed, Mongolian, and Sand Plover, Bar-tailed Godwit, Lesser Crested Tern, Olive Beeeater (which breed in the sand cliffs), Pygmy Kingfisher, Purple-banded Sunbird, mannikins, crabplovers, flamingoes and a host of others. Mozambique still lies off the major tourist routes, and several resorts offer visitors the chance to experience this unspoilt paradise and haven of peace. A short flight from Johannesburg makes this the perfect end to a southern Africa safari experience. The resorts all offer snorkeling and diving in the crystal clear waters and seclusion on golden beaches.
Marlin Lodge's
sea-facing chalets have private patios with a walkway down to the pristine white sand beach. The wood-reed-and-thatch chalets are a perfect blend of classic chic and African island beauty.
Benguerra Lodge
is the ultimate uncrowded romantic hideaway. Each chalet is on stilts and overlooks the Indian Ocean. This up-market lodge offers exclusivity in a tranquil setting of golden beaches and whispering palms. For those wanting total exclusivity a private two bed villa with its own pool and chef are also available.
Quilalea
Quilalea is an idyllic island resort nestling in a forgotten corner of Mozambique's Quirimbas Archipelago in the tropical Indian Ocean. Completely uninhabited, it has nine private villas each with sea views. Quilalea is an ideal honeymoon destination or holiday location for those in need of relaxation. Quilalea works well as an extension to a safari in both east and southern Africa.
