Atlantic Odyssey

Travel from the icy cold of Antarctica to the tropical heat of Ascension Island in one expedition on one ship in just four weeks - unbeatable!

On this unique four week voyage sailing from Ushuaia in Argentina through the South Atlantic to Ascension Island you will visit some of the most remote and isolated islands in the world: from the sub-Antarctic island of South Georgia to the even more remote South Atlantic islands of Tristan da Cunha, Nightingale and St Helena.

The diversity of seabirds and marine mammals seen along the way combined with the spectacular islands, where the human history involving such legendary figures as Shackleton and Napoleon is an interesting as the natural history, offered at a fantastic valuefor- money price, makes this voyage truly unforgettable. The voyage price reflects that you will cover the major leg of the annual repositioning of your vessel on her journey north to Arctic waters.

Wildlife abounds with many species of penguins, albatrosses, petrels, shearwaters, prions and tropicbirds, as well as possible sightings of Fin, Minke, Humpback, Southern Bottlenose, Sperm, and Long-finned Pilot Whales, Southern Sealions, Fur Seals and numerous Weddell, Leopard, Crabeater and Southern Elephant Seals.

You will set foot on the Antarctic continent before cruising through the icy wilderness of the Weddell Sea en-route to the South Orkneys and South Georgia. You can read more about the Antarctic Peninsula and South Georgia in the 'Antarctic'. Passing through the Antarctic Convergence you will be on your way to Gough Island, a spectacular island of vegetated high cliffs and deep treefilled valleys designated a World Heritage site and home to millions of breeding seabirds. Landings here are not permitted so you board the zodiacs on the lookout for the endemic Gough Moorhen and Gough Bunting. In the Tristan da Cunha archipelago you land on the main island at Edinburgh, as well as nearby Nightingale Island with millions of seabirds ranging from Yellow-nosed Albatross to Brown Noddies, and on the aptly named Inaccessible Island (conditions allowing) for the Flightless Rail. Entering sub-tropical waters you can expect calm seas as you sail towards Jamestown on St Helena where Redbilled Tropicbirds and noddies fly around your vessel whilst at anchor.

Your last stop will be Ascension, a dry volcanic island with a moist and richly vegetated top known as Green Mountain. The island's Sooty Tern colony holds more than a million breeding pairs and a zodiac cruise to Boatswain Bird Island offers great snorkelling opportunities as well as the endemic Ascension Frigatebird and beautiful Whitetailed Tropicbirds. You may also witness egglaying Atlantic Green Turtles coming ashore at night.
