Blue Whale Study Week
9 days London to London
- Day 1. Depart London
- Depart London for Baie Comeau, flying via Montreal. On arrival you will be transferred to your hotel in Forestville, on the estuary of the St Lawrence River, where you will be based for seven nights. Here you join your fellow participants, which will be limited to a maximum of six.
- Days 2 to 7. Forestville [B, L, D]
-
Your days will be spent observing and contributing to the study of Blue Whales which can be found in high concentrations in the estuary, and just off the coast of Sept-Iles, between August and September. From seven metre rigid-hulled inflatable boats you will have the chance to join biologists at sea, participating in field research and assisting in the collection of data, often spending six to ten hours on the water.
Researchers on board will provide information about the ecology of the whales and also how to identify individual whales by their characteristic markings. Although much of your time is spent specialising in Blue Whale research, Harbour Porpoises, Atlantic White-sided, and Whitebeaked Dolphins, Harp, and Grey Seals may also be seen, providing you with a most unique wildlife experience.
- Days 8 & 9. Homeward [B (Day 9 only)]
- Return to Baie Comeau for your homeward flight, via Montreal.
