Brown Bears in Bulgaria

Day 1. Depart London [D]

Depart London for Sofia. On arrival transfer to the small town of Apriltsi, situated adjacent to the Central Balkan National Park for a 4-night stay at the Tihiat hotel.

Days 2 to 4. Bear hide [B, L, D]

Bulgaria boasts one of the healthiest populations of Brown Bear in Europe, with around 700 bears roaming the mountains here. You have the option to spend just the evening in the hide or if you prefer, stay the whole night in the hide as dawn can be an excellent time to see and photograph the bears in their natural environment.

During the day explore the surrounding territory for bear tracks, learn about the biology of the bears and have the opportunity to discuss conservation issues with your guide. Other animals that you may see include Wild Boar, Red Deer, Roe Deer, as well as Golden Eagle and many woodland birds.

Day 5. Homeward [B]

Return to Sofia for your homeward flight. Depending on time there may be the opportunity for a city sightseeing tour.
