Complete Malawi

17 days London to London

Days 1 to 3. Vwaza Marsh Game Reserve (B & L (Day 3 only, D (Days 2 & 3 only)]
Depart London for Lilongwe via Nairobi. On arrival you fly to Mzuzu where you will be met and transferred by road to Vwaza Marsh Game Reserve and Kazuni Safari Camp at the foot of the Nyika Plateau, for a 2-night stop. Resident wildlife here includes Elephant, Cape Buffalo, Bushpig, Impala and Greater Kudu. Birders will be able to enjoy egrets, herons, kingfishers and plovers, and safaris will be on foot and by open 4-wheel drive.
Days 4 to 6. Nyika Plateau [B, L, D]
Continue on by road to Chelinda Camp on the Nyika Plateau. The highland plateau that forms Nyika National Park is Malawi's most scenic region. It is a truly wild area of vast open spaces where wildlife is plentiful - Eland, Roan, Reedbuck, Duiker, Burchell's Zebra, Bushpig and Leopard are all resident. The park also supports a healthy population of Malawi's rarer birds in the evergreen forests and on the grasslands butterflies and wildflowers (particularly between October and March). This exceptional destination may be enjoyed on foot, by vehicle and even on horseback, spending three nights at Chelinda Camp.
Days 7 & 8. Northern Lakeshore [B, D]
A short flight takes you to the northern shores of Lake Malawi and a small lakeside lodge called Chintheche Inn. This comfortable lodge accommodates twenty guests in ten twin rooms, each with en-suite facilities and fans. There is a central dining area and a pool overlooking the lake. This part of the lake offers a great rural lakeside setting and the opportunity to get out into the nearby indigenous forest for some excellent birding. You may also like to visit local villages, snorkel, scuba dive, windsurf or sail - the opportunities are endless!
Days 9 to 11. Southern Lakeshore [B, L, D]
After an early start you will make the long transfer by road to Kayak Africa for a 3-night stay. The luxurious yet rustic accommodation at Kayak Africa consists of large safari tents raised off the ground on thatched wooden decks overlooking the lake. Each tent has en-suite facilities, its own verandah and a private hammock. Embark on three days of kayaking, snorkelling, scuba diving and beachcombing as you visit the sun-drenched islands of Lake Malawi.
Days 12 to 15. Liwonde National Park [B, L, D]
Continue by road to Liwonde National Park and Mvuu Wilderness Camp. The park on the Shire River is characterised by quiet lagoons, open savannah and wooded hills and its varied range of habitats support Sable, Elephant, Hippo, Leopard and Serval amongst many resident mammals, whilst bird specialities include Livingstone's Flycatcher, Brown-breasted Barbet and Palmnut Vulture. You will spend your time exploring on foot, by 4-wheel drive and by boat on the Shire River returning each evening to the comfort of the camp.
