Festival of Wildlife 2009 Tanzania

Festival of Wildlife 2009 Tanzania

The 2009 Festival of Wildlife heads off on the 23rd May to the plains of the Serengeti. The camp that we are staying at is placed 'Great Migration' is to pass nearby the camp that we are staying out. We hope to soon have many stories and photos of seeing the White-bearded Wildebeest and Burchell's Zebra as they pass by on their annual journey through the untamed beauty of the Serengeti. We will be updating this page with a day by day blog, however due to limited access to the internet at our location these updates maybe only reflect on our return.

Jackson Looseyia, Festival 2009 ExpertJackson Saigilu Ole Looseyia, comes from a distinguished Maasai family; his father Olotuya Sayole. As a boy, Jackson trained as a tracker before being employed by the Beaton family who spotted his talent for bush craft and promoted him to guide in 1985. Jackson is now a partner in Rekero Camp, a small luxury tented camp in the Maasai Mara National Reserve. He now passes on his extensive knowledge by training new guides at the Koyiaki Guiding School. He was recently one of the co-presenters on the BBC's live production "Big Cat Live".

Our camp will be sited in the central Serengeti, but as we want you to be as close to the action as possible, the precise location won't be decided until nearer the time. The remote location of our private camp will complete the African experience. Surrounded by the endless grasslands and savannah of the Serengeti you will become immersed in the beauty of the undisturbed majestic landscape.

The spacious tents will be beautifully furnished with comfortable beds, a dressing table, with traditional cloth covers and spectacular views of the plains. All the tents have solar lighting and an en-suite bathroom with hot-water bucket showers. We will enjoy sundowners by the magnificent campfire followed by special dinners prepared by bush chefs - adding an element of Swahili to your dining!

During our stay in Tanzania we hope to be visited by some of the local experts currently involved in research projects in the Serengeti, associated with Black Rhino and the Born Free Foundation and the local lion and hyena research group.
