High Arctic Explorer

Explore the eastern Canadian High Arctic and the north-west coast of Greenland; travel to places that very few people have ever seen, explore new areas and discover new lands.

Sailing from Resolute to Resolute, this 12-day voyage of adventure and discovery investigates areas that have challenged many famous explorers in the past. Travel in this region relies heavily on understanding the sea ice and, as previous explorers have found, this really is a 'moveable feast'.

You sail in an area that overflows with history and is renowned for its rare and spectacular wildlife including two Arctic icons - the Polar Bear and the Walrus, many species of seabird and Arctic Seal, and also the endangered Bowhead Whale. This is wilderness at its most extreme and beautiful with towering cliffs and glaciers, flowing tundra and ice in all its forms.

Visits to some of the world's most remote communities will introduce you to both modern and ancient aspects of the Inuit culture. Stops are planned at Grise Fjord, Canada's northern-most community, as well as Greenland's remote outpost of Qaanaaq, at 77 degrees north.

As you cross Baffin Bay you need to keep a look-out for Fin, Sperm, Sei and Humpback Whales. You may also spot Polar Bears icehopping in search of prey. Conditions permitting, the ship will sail Eclipse Sound to Pond Inlet where you will be treated to a fabulous display of Inuit culture with singing, dancing and Arctic game challenges!

A proper High Arctic expedition must include mention of Sir John Franklin's fatal attempt to find the Northwest Passage. Your itinerary includes Beechey Island where the first to die were buried in 1845. You will have time to explore this historic site before sailing the Wellington Channel en-route to Resolute where your voyage ends.
