Wings over Botswana
Premier Option
We suggest as a starting point the following itinerary which visits each of the distinct regions of northern Botswana. The bullet-points show the lodge choices in each area.
- Day 1. Depart London
- Days 2 & 3. Okavango Delta [B (Day 3 only), L, D]
- On arrival into Maun you will be met and transferred directly by light aircraft into the Okavango Delta. Instead of flowing into the ocean as most rivers do, the Okavango River's journey ends at a fault line in the Kalahari Desert where it spills onto the sand. The result is a vast tapestry of crystal clear channels, lagoons and small islands which in an otherwise dry landscape attracts a myriad of waterfowl and other birds as well as large concentrations of wildlife. All the camps here are situated in wetland areas well known for their large concentrations of game:
-
Vumbura Plains - eight deluxe spacious suites with their own plunge pools on the same island as Little Vumbura.
-
Jao - a luxury tented camp built under a beautiful canopy of shady trees.
- Days 4 to 6. Moremi [B, L, D]
- Today you fly on to Moremi. Set aside by the baTwana tribe in 1963, Moremi is considered to be one of Africa's finest wildlife sanctuaries. Covering 3,000 square kilometres of the Okavango's north-eastern portion, its wide-ranging habitats include dry savannah woodland, mopane forest, riparian woodland, floodplain, reedbeds and permanent waters of the Okavango Delta.
-
Mombo and Little Mombo - these exclusive sister camps overlook a wonderful floodplain that teems with game.
-
Chitabe Lediba - a small camp on a beautiful shaded island surrounded by classic Okavango scenery.
- Days 7 to 9. Linyanti [B, L, D]
- Another light aircraft transfer takes you to the Linyanti Reserve, consisting of 125,000 hectares of prime wildlife countryside. The reserve is bordered to the north by the Linyanti River and to the east by Chobe National Park. Two thirds of the Savuti Channel lie within the reserve and its diversity of habitat make it a fantastic haven for wildlife. There are excellent grasslands along both the dry Savuti Channel and the Linyanti River, papyrus marshlands, massive lagoons, and both acacia and mopane forests sustain large elephant herds in the winter months.
-
Kings Pool - is situated on the western boundary of Chobe National Park. The highlights are two well positioned hides.
-
Zibalianja Camp - located near the source of the Savuti Channel and built on a palm island.
- Day 10. Homeward [B]
- After morning game-viewing you fly down to Maun, on to Johannesburg and then home on the overnight flight.
- Day 11. Arrive home
