Wings over Zambia

13 days London to London

Day 1. Depart London
Depart London for Livingstone flying via Johannesburg.
Days 2 & 3. Victoria Falls, Livingstone [B (Day 3 only)]
You will be met and transferred to the Royal Livingstone Hotel, where you will be based for two nights. This luxury hotel on the Zambian side of the Falls is without doubt the best placed to view the Falls themselves. The hotel has been lovingly crafted from near virgin bushland and the attention to detail is exceptional. The rooms are all in 2-storey clusters and each has a private balcony or terrace with superb views of the Zambezi River. There is of course a beautiful swimming pool, a sumptuous dining room, a lounge and a bar. The wooded grounds are a pleasure to stroll and birdwatch in, and there is a large wooden platform beneath a shady tree which projects over the Zambezi River.
Days 4 to 6. Lower Zambezi [B, L, D]
Transfer by road to Livingstone airport for the flight to the Lower Zambezi. For many years this park was a forgotten wilderness although it covers an exceptionally beautiful 4,092 square kilometres with a backdrop of the steeply rising Zambezi Escarpment. Its most characteristic feature is of course the river itself and its surrounding area is superb game-viewing country. Elephant, Lion, Cheetah, Leopard and huge herds of Cape Buffalo are resident here, together with Impala, Puku, Baboon, Vervet Monkey and Nile Crocodiles. On arrival you will be transferred to Chiawa, Old Mondoro, Kulefu, or Sausage Tree Camp for three nights.
Days 7 to 11. Luangwa Valley [B, L, D]
After the mornings game-viewing activities, transfer by road back to Jeki airstrip in time for your flight to Mfuwe. From here you will be transferred by road to Tafika, where you will be based for five nights. You may wish to combine your visit to Tafika with a stay at its two satellite camps Chikoko and Crocodile Camp. Both are simple camps constructed of thatch overlooking plains of wildlife, the accommodation at Chikoko having been built three metres above the ground to perfect the view. All luggage and supplies are portered into the camps as there are no roads. The camps lie slightly upstream of Tafika on the opposite bank of the Luangwa in a wilderness area of great natural beauty teeming with big game, making walking safaris between the camps an experience not to be missed.
Day 12. Homeward [B]
After your final morning of wildlife-viewing, you return to Lusaka by air in time to connect with your homeward flight.
Day 13. Arrive home
