After the Rains print, David Shepherd

14) After the Rains print (21 cm x 41 cm)

In David's own words, "I failed in my only ambition to be an African game-warden. I never had any talent for painting and was thrown out of art school as being untrainable. It was entirely due to a chance meeting with a professional artist, Robin Goodwin, who agreed to teach me".

David's first love was aviation and in 1960 the Royal Air Force in Kenya commissioned his first wildlife painting - "I have never looked back." On that same visit he became a passionate conservationist when he witnessed 255 zebra lying dead around a poisoned waterhole.

David's many one-man shows have been sell-outs and he has received many honours. He has been the subject of radio and TV programmes and has published five books. Through his own charity, he has been able in some way to "pay off my enormous debt of gratitude to the animals I paint".

David Shepherd Wildlife Foundation

David lives in West Sussex with his wife, and has four daughters who all share his passion for wildlife.

The original of 'After the Rains' was auctioned to raise funds for Zambia's Orphaned Elephants Emergency Appeal and has now been made into this stunning limited edition print of 500 copies, of which only 200 are on sale in the UK. This print will come with the signature of the artist himself and is a collector's piece.
