Governors' Camp
Governors' Camp
Throughout Africa, one family of safari camps provides the standard by which all others are judged; the Governors' family of Camps. It began in 1972 with Africa's first luxury safari camp, Governors' Camp, built on the spot once reserved exclusively for Kenya's Colonial Governors. Over a quarter of a century later, you will be in the hands of some of the most experienced people in the safari business.
Governors', Little Governors' & Il Moran Camps are situated on the banks of the Mara river in the North West of the Masai Mara National Reserve. From the start, Governors' set new standards in luxury as a tented camp, putting particular emphasis on comfort and service, complimented by the sort of good food which would have been impossible in the bygone days of the grand safari. Maintaining these unique qualities as a tradition, the camp has been refined and improved through the years. Having worked closely with conservation groups to preserve endangered species and bring benefits to local communities, your security and safety is always considered. You may be in wildest Africa but Governors' Camps communications networks mean you can be in touch with anyone, anywhere if necessary.
All guest facilities are under canvas and keep the authentic, traditional safari atmosphere. All guest tents have en-suite bathrooms with shower and basin, running cold and hot water as well as a flush toilet. Gas and paraffin lamps are used for lighting.
The dining and bar tents are in the centre of the camp, along with an open fire place. Next to the reception is a small gallery with local paintings and handcrafts as well as a small souvenir shop. Breakfast and lunch are served buffet style in the open. Dinner is served in the restaurant tent. For dinner there is usually a menu with a choice of main courses. A traditional camp fire is lit at sunset every evening.
