David Back - Horny@50

David Back

David Explains.....

With my 50th birthday rapidly approaching... well 3 years away, and mindful of the wonderful experiences I have been given by wildlife over the years, I am aiming to make a meaningful contribution to conservation to mark the event.

Having worked in Zambia's Luangwa Valley during the 1980's when the substantial Black Rhino population was decimated by systematic poaching, it made sense that the rhino became the subject of the plan. 'Horny@50' has been established to help support worldwide rhino conservation projects in an effort to give something back to my favourite animal.

I have set the ambitious target of raising £100,000 for rhino conservation each year for the next three years. The beneficiary in year one will be the Black Rhino, in particular a reintroduction programme in Zambia's North Luangwa National Park. Year two will focus on India's Greater One-horned Rhino and year three on the plight of the Sumatran Rhino.

All the funds raised through the 'Horny@50' project are being channelled into field conservation through the David Shepherd Wildlife Foundation. David Shepherd Wildlife Foundation
