Mammals of Madagascar, by Nick Garbutt

A journey to Madagascar is a visit to a world within the world. The variety of the environments combined with its isolation has produced a diversity in the animal and plant kingdom found nowhere else on earth. It is the fourth largest island in the world and has a history of isolation. 130 million years ago it split from the mainland of what was Gondwanaland and became a unique wildlife sanctuary encompassing a breathtaking variety of landscapes from highland mountains and coastal rainforests to savannah plains, dry baobab forests, lakes, a unique spiny desert, mangroves and of course beautiful beaches. Only Brazil has more primate species than Madagascar, but it is only in Madagascar that you can see lemurs...

ZAMBIA MOBILE SAFARIS - SAVE £1,100

HUGE DISCOUNTS DUE TO LATE JUNE/JULY CANCELLATIONS

Walking safari

A handful of travellers have decided at the last minute that Skegness is a better bet for summer 2008 and as a result Wildlife Worldwide can offer what can only be described as 'truly moving' discounts on selected departures of its 13-day South Luangwa Mobile Walking Safari holidays, departing London 19th and 29th June, 18th and 23rd July 2008.

Walking safaris were pioneered in Zambia's Luangwa Valley and certainly South Luangwa maintains a high reputation amongst the cognoscenti as the way to experience the real Africa. This holiday has three sections, initially spending a couple of nights amongst beautiful stands of ebony at Nkwali camp. The walking route strikes out following the Mupamadzi River, covering approximately ten kilometres per day across varied terrain in the park's remote northern region. For five nights guests are escorted by expert safari guides and armed National Park Scouts, wildlife viewing en route and spending each evening in a fully-serviced mobile camp with walk-in tents and bucket showers, enjoying evening meals cooked and eaten under brilliant star-filled Zambian skies. From ants to buffalo, bird's nests to tracking lions, guests will learn the many facets of the bush. Latterly, three nights are spent by the shores of the Luangwa River at Tena Tena camp, where a magnificent thatched bar area offers great views over the river. Further walking and 4wd game explorations are made before a final night close to Lusaka at Pioneer Camp and homewards flights next day.

The holidays costs from £3,395 p/p (Normally £4,495 p/p - saving £1,100) including scheduled international flights from London (BA) and domestic connections, luxury safari camp and mobile safari accommodation with all meals and most drinks and expertly guided wildlife viewing activities.
