Coral Triangle Snorkelling Adventure

The magic of Indonesia’s underwater world is no longer reserved solely for scuba divers. You can also experience the stunning marine diversity that this area has to offer from the surface of the country's crystal clear waters.

Our sister company Dive Worldwide have recently launched an exclusive snorkelling liveaboard trip to explore the remote reefs of Raja Ampat and Triton Bay. The Indonesian coral triangle is the most bio diverse marine area on the planet with over 1,200 species of fish.

Staying on the elegant Pindito yacht, you have the perfect base from which to visit specially selected shallow reefs that are teaming with marine life and are perfect for snorkelling. While exploring these stunning reefs you might be lucky enough to snorkel alongside dolphins, mantas rays and turtles.

Alongside snorkelling you can visit remote Indonesian villages, getting involved with local cultures and customs, as well as relaxing on board the luxury yacht with a small group of fellow snorkellers.

Take a look at our five tips to help you prepare for your snorkelling trip to Indonesia:

1) Mask - Your mask is the most important part of ensuring you enjoy your snorkelling. If you have to stop every few minutes to empty out the water that has seeped in, you’re potentially going to miss out on some brilliant marine encounters. Get a mask that is closely sealed to your face. A good tip is to hold it to your face and breathe in through your nose; if it stays securely on your face, you are good to go! Put the strap around the widest part of your head and don’t fit it too tight; the pressure of the water should hold it in place.

2) Defogging - A perfectly fitted mask isn’t going to do much good if it’s so fogged up you can’t see through it. There are many things you can use to defog your mask. The simplest way, however, is to use spit, gently rub it around the inside of the mask and rinse off before putting on the mask. (You can use toothpaste or baby shampoo as an alternative.)

3) Fins - Another important piece of equipment are fins; they help you to move around through the water efficiently without burning too much energy. When choosing your fins, make sure they are comfortable and well fitted on your feet; it’s better for them to be slightly bigger than too small.

4) Sunburn – The easiest way to ruin your snorkelling holiday is sunburn. Spending hours floating in the sea is the perfect way to end up with a sunburnt back! Protect yourself from the sun while snorkelling by wearing a t-shirt.  When it comes to sun cream, make sure you get one that doesn’t damage the reef. Look for a cream that doesn’t include oxybenzone.

5) Float and relax – Finally, but most importantly, you want to enjoy your holiday and your marine encounters. The key to snorkelling is to relax and float on the surface of the water. Use your feet to move around while you slowly take in the wonders of the ocean all around you.
