Located just outside our home city of Winchester, Marwell is a champion of wildlife conservation and their aim in summer 2016 was to highlight the work being done by the charity to protect the endangered Grevy’s zebra in the wild. Marwell’s ‘Zany Zebra’ fiesta took place from 16 July to 25 September, and in the South of England people found themselves spotting up to 150 (replica!) Grevy’s zebras wandering the streets of Southampton and Marwell Zoo.
The fantastic prize was a nine day Kenya safari for two people, visiting the famous Masai Mara and Samburu National Reserves, staying in luxury lodges. Wildlife safaris with expert guides take place within the Reserves to see lion, leopard, cheetah and huge herds of elephants, as well as gazelle, topi and, of course, Grevy’s zebra. Not to mention the fantastic (and prolific) birdlife to be found here.
With a pair of Swarovski binoculars also included, this was an amazing prize, worth almost £8,000!
