Sixty Go Wild in Yorkshire

Walks Weekend 1

Walks Worldwide were the ultimate hosts, having thought of a multitude of activities for all generations over the three-day weekend. The relaxed agenda incorporated not only numerous walks of varying grades of exertion, but also outings and specific children’s activities.

After a well-deserved pub meal on the Friday evening following long, but not too arduous journeys from the south, everyone finally made their way to their respective bed and breakfasts.

Saturday saw everyone up bright and early and some ready to tackle the heights of nearby Ingleborough and Whernside, the highest point in Yorkshire at around 800 metres. The hardy walkers tackled both these peaks in the same day covering around 25 kilometres!

Walks Weekend 2

Needless to say, most of the families with youngsters opted for the more leisurely route of the nearby short Waterfalls walk, which started on the track towards Ingleborough and then headed towards the stepping stones across the river Doe. At this point many of the children decided to test their stone skimming skills, the competition became intense and resulted in waist-height paddling, intentionally or sometimes unintentionally! Once dried off at the end of the walk, children were introduced to a mini abseiling lesson, which was very well received.

Many of the hardened walkers had already staked their places at the local hostelry – The Wheatsheaf, where a company barbeque was planned for the Saturday evening entertainment.

Walks Weekend 3

A few sore heads emerged the following morning but options for Sundays activities included an enjoyable visit to the Forbidden Corner and Leyburn Food Fair, additional walks and mountain biking for the active, and of course the Sunday papers for the less active. Walks Worldwide provided not only a sumptuous afternoon tea of sandwiches and home baked scones (courtesy of Felicity), but also a frantic treasure hunt around the town, where some creative thinking was a necessity to come up with some of the answers.

The bank holiday Monday beckoned a lie-in followed by the long journey back down south. A great weekend was had by all. Thanks Walks Worldwide.
