This Not-for-Profit Trust was established in 1967 by a group of Trinidadian naturalists and birdwatchers, and was one of the first nature centres to be established in the entire Caribbean area.
In addition to being a centre for conservation and research into tropical ecology, Asa Wright is a world-class birding destination. In the grounds you can spot a huge number of bird species, including white-necked jacobin, tufted coquette, collared trogon and bearded bellbird.
The centre consists of 24 rooms, each with an en suite bathroom, located in the main Estate House (which has disabled access), as well as in nearby cottages that are scattered throughout the attractive garden-like grounds. The verandah of the main house has fine views across the forest that stretches right down the valley, and this scenic setting is one of the finest birding spots in the Caribbean.
