Chiloé is an important island for Magellanic and Humboldt penguins, and is also home to black-necked swan, greenbacked firecrown, Patagonian tyrant, ringed kingfisher, silvery grebe and Chilean flamingo.

In addition, Chiloé Island is a great place to see blue whales, where sightings between January and April are known to be particularly reliable.

Also an interesting island from a cultural point of view, Chiloé has changed little over the past few hundred years, with local traditions having been preserved. Located off the mainland near to the town of Puerto Montt, it also has some wonderful temperate rainforest.
