The largest town in the Oriente, Puyo is on a tributary of the Pastaza river and is the jumping off point for this part of the Amazon.

Most lodges are accessed by a 30-40 minute flight by chartered light aircraft from Puyo. Once at your chosen lodge, you will explore on foot and by boat in the company of a knowledgeable naturalist guide, and learn about the rainforest. In addition to birds and mammals and a profusion of flowers, many medicinal plants can be found in the forest, and on jungle hikes native guides will show you how to identify these and explain, or demonstrate, their various uses.

Puyo is around five hours drive from Quito, or two hours from the town of Baños. It is served by scheduled flights to Shell/Mera airport, a 30-minute drive away.
