Lake Langano’s wildlife is plentiful and includes ibex, monkeys and baboons; the birdlife is also excellent, with fan-tailed ravens and hornbills amongst its attractions.

The shallow alkaline waters of Lake Abijatta are surrounded by gentle grassy slopes and acacia woodland. Of all the Rift Valley Lakes, Lake Abijatta is renowned for its birdlife and will often appear pink with the thousands of flamingos - greater and lesser - that feed on the algae of the windward edge. You will also find white pelicans and a host of other water birds here.

By contrast, Lake Shalla is deep, reaching a depth of 250 metres, surrounded by jagged cliffs and imposing rock formations. Its nine small islands are home to many breeding sites, including the continent's most important breeding colony of great white pelicans.
