Lake Mburo National Park forms part of a 50 kilometre-long wetland system, and has up to 70 mammal species and good populations of plains game.

The park is home to large herds of zebra, impala, eland and other ungulates. Other mammals found in the park include oribi and Bohor reedbuck.  

Birdwatchers can also find a good range of birds here, with African finfoot and papyrus bushshrike sighted on a regular basis. Lake Mburo is also home to shoebills, although they are rarely seen.
