Madikwe is one of the lesser known reserves in South Africa, yet is home to over 8,000 animals, including the endangered wild dog.

More than 28 species have been released into the park including elephant, rhino, buffalo, lion, cheetah, wild dog, spotted hyena, giraffe and various antelope and other herbivores under Operation Phoenix in the late 90’s.

The reserve has been hailed as a role model for its successful joint venture management between the state, private sector and local communities. The fact that Madikwe Game Reserve is malaria-free, combined with its prolific wildlife make it a perfect destination for families, with excellent family friendly lodges.
