Home to some 30,000 plains game, this huge volcanic crater is the largest unflooded and unbroken caldera in the world. The swamps and soda lake attract an extraordinary number of flamingos, and the plains offer a variety of wildlife including black rhino, Cape buffalo, hippo and wildebeest.

At about 20 kilometres across and 300 square metres in area, Ngorongoro’s popularity and convenient location on the Northern Circuit mean you won’t be alone, but you can still escape the crowds and the guaranteed sightings far outweigh any negatives
