Six million years ago, Udzungwa was isolated from West Africa’s rainforest, so demonstrates a high degree of endemism.
25% of Udzungwa’s plants are unique; of ten primates, four are endemic – including hehe red colobus and sanje crested mangabey. Other endemic species include two bushbabies and birds such as rufous-winged sunbird and Udzungwa partridge.
