Things to see in India: Kaziranga National Park
Kaziranga, on the banks of the mighty Brahamaputra River in Assam, in northeast India, is regarded as the best location on the subcontinent to see Indian rhinoceros. Home to nearly 80% of the world's population, the park has World Heritage Site status, and is also inhabited by large herds of elephant, wild buffalo, tiger, leopard and bear.
Nearby Panabari Forest Reserve is home to the hoolock gibbon, India's only ape. Elephant and jeep safaris are available here and the open terrain makes it possible to see most major species during a two day safari.
