Things to see in Brazil: Salvador do Bahia
This attractive colonial city on the coast of Bahia State was, for a while, Brazil's capital. It reeks of history, and the richness of its architecture reflects its former status, while the faces of its people speak of slavery and its links with Africa.
Standing between green hills and broad sandy beaches on the bay of Todos os Santos, it makes a perfect stop for an injection of culture and relaxation at the end of your trip. Between May and December the nearby beaches are important breeding areas for green, olive-Ridley, hawksbill and loggerhead turtles.
