Things to see in India: Sundarbans National Park
The world's largest area of impenetrable mangrove forest covers some 10,000 square kilometres of land and water in the Ganges Delta, more than half in India, the rest in Bangladesh.
This network of tidal waterways and mudflats is home to numerous birds that include masked finfoot, mangrove pitta and mangrove whistler, plus crocodiles, turtles, snakes and deer. Its most famous residents, however, are more than 250 tigers, although these are hard to spot due to the terrain. The Sundarbans offer a unique wildlife experience, as game-viewing is done either by boat or from hides.
