Festival of Wildlife Reunion - July 2008
The Plains of Bishop's Sutton
Had the sky been blue and the sun beating down last Saturday we could almost have imagined ourselves in the plains of the Serengeti sipping wine as we scanned the nearby water hole for signs of life. Instead, however, occasional gusty winds reminded us that we were in fact sat in an English field in the middle of Hampshire - the beautiful but slightly chilly 'en plein air' location for the celebration of the 5th Anniversary of Festival of Wildlife.
Almost fifty hardy Festival attendees from all previous five events joined the Wildlife Worldwide team and several Festival experts past and future for a relaxed lunch at the Wildlife Worldwide headquarters in Bishop's Sutton, Hampshire. Hilary Bradt, MBE, attendee at this years Festival in Madagascar more than cheerfully delighted listeners with her tale of the discovery of the rare Twig Mimic Snake whilst at Anjajavy lodge; Jonathan Truss, wildlife artist, is always ready with a joke or impersonation to liven up proceedings; Lyn Hughes, editor and publisher of Wanderlust travel magazine brought copies of the latest mag including the in depth article about her involvement in this years Festival trip to Madagascar and Chris Packham, TV presenter and photographer chatted with guests about his wildlife career and his involvement in next years Festival in Tanzania.
We all enjoyed a delicious buffet lunch whilst catching up with old friends and reminiscing over the Festival sketchbooks containing memories of many wonderful wildlife encounters.
