Krumovgrad

Krumovgrad is situated in the Eastern Rhodope Mountains and is a popular region with tourists on account of its interesting historical sights and unspoiled nature. Melnik

Trigrad

Occupied since Thracian and Stone Age times, the village of Trigrad lies 40 kilometres west of the town of Smolyan, and the nearby Trigrad Gorge offers visitors activities such as caving and hiking. When to go

Bulgaria’s butterflies and raptors are best seen in the mountains of the south-west and south-east during midsummer – butterflies are on the wing, and breeding season is in full swing.

    Dec to Feb: Bulgaria’s climate is continental and the winters are generally cold, though milder along the Black Sea coast.
  • Spring

    Mar to May: Temperatures increase from March to June when they can reach 25°C. Less sunny than in summer but not much rain.
  • Summer

    Jun to Aug: Bulgaria has hot summers with temperatures reaching 25-30°C. In the Rhodopes July is the hottest month.
  • Autumn

    Sep to Nov: September and October can be quite warm, and it is not particularly rainy compared with the rest of Europe.
