Dilijan National Park

Dilijan National Park covers an area of 240 square kilometres and has tracts of forest, mineral water springs and a rich biodiversity. It’s covered in a network of hiking trails and there are several important national monuments contained within the park, including the Haghartsin Monastery. Find Out More

Lake Sevan

Lake Sevan is an important wetland for migratory passerines and waterfowl. There is a resident pair of goshawks, while migratory Levant sparrowhawks and demoiselle cranes use the site as a stopover on migration. 'Gull Island' in the north of the lake is an excellent location for Armenian gulls. Find Out More

Yerevan

When to go

Armenia is an exciting destination for migratory birds and has some of the best birding sites in the Western Palearctic, and late summer/early autumn is the best time.

    Jun to Aug: Armenia has a highland continental climate, with hot dry summers lasting until mid-September, and temperatures from 22-36°C.
  • Autumn

    Sep to Nov: Autumn is relatively long in Armenia and renowned for its colourful foliage. Breezes from the mountains cool temperatures.

    Dec to Feb: Armenia has cold winters and plenty of snowfall, with temperatures typically falling between -10 and -5°C.
  • Spring

    Mar to May: Spring is short and characterised by unpredictable weather, with rain common in March and April.

Wildlife events

  • Sep to Sep: During the autumn, especially early September, large numbers of demoiselle cranes pass through Armenia, particularly around Lake Sevan.
