Alishan National Scenic Area

The Alishan National Scenic Area is a beautiful combination of forest, mountains and tea plantations and is famous for its stunning sunrises and sunsets. Cherry blossoms and wisteria flower from late winter through to early spring and make for a great photograph against the carpet of wispy clouds. Find Out More

Dasyueshan Forest Recreation Area

The Dasyueshan Forest Recreation Area is located within the Snow Mountain range and is the meeting point for four of Taiwan’s mountain ranges. The views from the area are other-worldly and it is an ideal destination for birdwatchers, with key species including Swinhoe's pheasant, and Taiwan partridge. Find Out More

Taipei

The capital city of Taiwan, Taipei is a blend of ancient and modern with Buddhist temples and skyscrapers along the skyline. The Taipei City Waterbird Refuge is located to the north of the city and hosts numerous winter migrants including Chinese egret, Baikal teal and northern shoveler. Find Out More

The island of Taiwan straddles the Tropic of Cancer in the South China Sea and has a diverse range of tropical and temperate habitats from humid lowland forest to rolling plains. Five mountain ranges, with peaks rising to over 3,000 metres, hold both coniferous forest and alpine tundra.

When to go

Taiwan is a year-round destination. Most of the island enjoys a subtropical climate, though the far south is tropical. Autumn and winter are the best times to visit.

    Jun to Aug: June to August are the hottest months, with temperatures falling between 25°C and 38°C and with high humidity.
  • Autumn

    Sep to Nov: Temperatures are a little cooler during the autumn in Taiwan and rainfall is at its lowest.
  • Winter

    Dec to Feb: Winters are often mild and can be foggy due to Siberian north-westerly winds. Temperatures in Taipei can drop to 8°C.
  • Spring

    Mar to May: With temperatures comfortable, between 20-25°C, and blossom showing, spring is a pleasant time to visit Taiwan.
