Gaspesie National Park’s aim is to protect a representative sample of the natural environment of the Gaspésie massif and the exceptional elements found there. Over 150 species of bird are found here.
Arctic-alpine plants and tundra landscapes form a habitat for a herd of woodland caribou, the last representatives of this species south of the Saint-Laurent.
A hiking hotspot, this national park provides access to an extraordinary mountain environment in the heart of the Gaspé Peninsula: the Chic-Chocs and McGerrigle Mountains cross the park and among them, Mont Jacques Cartier is the second highest peak in Québec (1,268 metres). The Chic-Chocs are well known among outdoor enthusiasts for their breathtaking scenery. One of the best ways to discover them is to participate in the discovery activities on offer – through the interpretation of natural and cultural heritage, you’ll learn more about the park and the importance of protecting it. Among the treasures you can learn about are: the tundra landscapes of Mont Jacques-Cartier and the caribou that are seen there, the unique Mont Albert and its unusual morphology, and the spectacular glacial cirque of Lac aux Américains.
