What to expect on a wildlife cruise holiday

Our small-ship cruises offer a unique way to explore some of the world’s most extraordinary wildlife destinations. The greatest advantage of travelling aboard a small expedition vessel is being able to visit remote locations which are impossible to reach by land and inaccessible for larger vessels. With a limited number of passengers on board, the atmosphere is relaxed and friendly, allowing you to connect with like-minded travellers, and on our exclusive voyages, a hand-picked tour leader from our team. Our voyages offer the possibility of unique and intimate wildlife encounters, whether you’re watching polar bears in the Arctic, whale spotting in Antarctica or swimming with marine iguanas in the Galapagos Islands, expedition cruising is a fantastic way to connect with nature and witness a wide array of species throughout the world. Many of our guests also choose to extend their holiday with time on land, to get their most out of their wildlife holiday.

A typical day on board one of our voyages begins with a hearty breakfast followed by a morning excursion. This may be a Zodiac cruise through icy polar waters or a shore landing and morning walk on a volcanic Galapagos island. You return to the ship for lunch before an afternoon of exploration. With expert guides leading the way, you may explore hidden coves, snorkel, discover passing marine life, or land ashore to visit vast penguin colonies or observe nesting birds. Each evening, you gather for dinner, swapping stories of the day's discoveries, and in the Arctic you could be on the lookout for the northern lights! Evening lectures and presentations offer deeper insights into the local region and many of the vessels offer a variety of amenities for you to enjoy, such as an onboard library, citizen science centre, observation lounge, and on-deck hot tubs. If you're feeling inspired, find out more about our wildlife cruise holidays below, including what special offers are typically available.

Our Expedition Vessels

Boat in San Cristobal, the Galapagos Islands.
Embark on an intimate adventure aboard one of our hand-picked expedition vessels, all accommodating fewer than 200 passengers, with many much smaller. From the charm of traditional sailing ships and the history of ex-research vessels to the cutting-edge design of purpose-built ships, each boat offers its own unique appeal. All boast comfortable accommodation, with off-ship exploration and wildlife at the heart of each itinerary. Every voyage is designed to maximise your experience of the natural world.

Extension Options

Puma in Torres del Paine National Park, Chile
You may like to take advantage of other nearby wildlife encounters by extending your holiday, either pre- and/or post-voyage. We have a variety of options to choose from, and you can tailor an itinerary to your requirements. Combine your Antarctic expedition with time in South America, including a city break in Buenos Aires, a visit to Iguazu Falls, or the chance to watch pumas in Patagonia. A Galapagos Island cruise blends perfectly with a stay in the Ecuadorian Amazon or Cloud Forest, or discover Alaska by road following your Inside Passage cruise.

Antarctic Voyages

King penguins in South Georgia.
Antarctica is a place of extremes, where the sun never sets in summer and the temperatures plunge to unimaginable lows in winter. Amidst icy landscapes, towering glaciers, and glittering icebergs, a wealth of wildlife thrives, from playful penguins and majestic seals to gigantic whales and graceful albatross. Our Antarctica cruises offer extraordinary opportunities to witness nature in its purest form, from classic voyages exploring the Antarctic Peninsula to epic expeditions across the Ross Sea and intrepid journeys to witness iconic emperor penguins in the Weddell Sea. Many of our Antarctic voyages also visit the wildlife havens of the Falkland Islands and South Georgia, where an array of species thrive, including penguins, seals, and seabirds, offering an even richer experience.
