This floating lodge is tucked into Glendale Cove, in the heart of the Great Bear Rainforest, an area which is home to one of the largest concentrations of grizzly bears in British Columbia.
Lying some 60 kilometres inland along the largest fjord on the British Columbia coast, Knight Inlet Lodge has 16 guest rooms, all with private en suite bathrooms with a shower. All meals are included and feature fresh local produce, and complimentary wine is served with dinner. The staff includes naturalist guides and photography leaders, who accompany all excursions. On most evenings there is a wildlife talk or presentation, or a film is shown.
The main reason to stay at Knight Inlet lodge, though, is the fact that it is located in the heart of the Great Bear Rainforest where there is one of the largest concentrations of grizzly bears in British Columbia. The lodge offers boat trips to explore the hidden coves of the inlet, allowing you to view bears at eye-level, making for a remarkable experience. Alternatively, you can take a boat across the cove, and then take a small bus along an old logging road to reach the salmon spawning channels, where it is not uncommon to see up to 15 bears on the river at any one time and the viewing is done from elevated stands.
