In the heart of the valley on the banks of the Danum River and facing a swathe of pristine forest, Borneo Rainforest Lodge has one of the finest vistas you could wish for.
The lodge accommodates up to 60 guests in 28 twin-bedded rooms in 23 chalets, each room having an en suite bathroom and balcony. The comfortable chalets are built on stilts and connected by raised boardwalks. Surrounded by trails, the lodge has a spectacular 300 metre long canopy walkway, with viewing platforms up to 26 metres high – a fantastic way to view wildlife from a different angle!
Wildlife abounds in the surrounding pristine 43,800-hectare conservation area – more than 340 bird species have been recorded here, along with 124 species of mammals, 72 species of reptiles, 56 species of amphibians, and there is a staggering biodiversity of 200 plant species per hectare! Much of the fauna is nocturnal, however, and is most likely to be seen during a night safari or jungle trek. Individual wild orangutans frequently nest in the vicinity of the lodge.
The emphasis here is on creating a deeper understanding of the primeval Borneo rainforest and today’s conservation realities, by allowing guests the personal freedom to explore the incredible diversity and complexity of the surrounding area.
The lodge is a two hour drive from the town of Lahad Datu, gateway to the Danum Valley.
