Located in the heart of the Chambal Valley, this family-owned heritage property sits on an extensive wooded estate, surrounded by farmland, a mere hour’s drive from the Taj Mahal.
This idyllic, award-winning eco-lodge lies just 65 kilometres south-west of Agra next to the River Chambal and National Chambal Wildlife Sanctuary. The property is owner-run and renovated, and the heart of the complex is an old British bungalow draped in bougainvillea where home-cooked meals are prepared from fresh local ingredients. Accommodation consists of 14 rooms and cottages of varying categories and sizes, each with en suite bathroom and covered verandah. A number of these rooms also come with a private sit-out area, ensuring total peace and tranquillity between activities.
The sprawling plantation that surrounds the lodge is home to numerous birds and small mammals, and on evening nature walks with the resident naturalist you may see palm civets, jungle cats, golden jackals, jungle hares, Indian flying foxes bats, hedgehogs and striped hyenas. With a checklist of almost 200 birds, birding in the grounds starts with the wake-up call of barbets and babblers, and continues through the day into the evening. From here you can explore the Chambal Valley at your own pace - by boat, jeep or on foot. Keen birders should allow time to explore the nearby Patna Bird Sanctuary (wetlands) and the Sarus Crane Conservation Area.
