A traditional ecolodge offering simple but comfortable bungalow accommodation and a lovely restaurant in a perfect setting next to Chebera-Churchura National Park.
Set on a forested hill on the edge of Chebera-Churchura National Park, Chebera Safari Lodge is owned and operated by a local family who work closely with the local community.
Each of the ten fairly simple rooms on offer have a private bathroom, comfortable bed with mosquito net, storage chest, water dispenser, table and umbrellas. Further up the hill, along a track of about five minutes walk (quite steep and a little slippery after rain), is a lovely open-sided restaurant decorated with local artwork where home-cooked buffet style meals are served. There's a small bar here with a modest range of local beers, wines and soft drinks available.
The lodge has its own organic garden, with almost all produce for the restaurant being grown on site, or coming from the local farms.
There are many fruiting trees that regularly attract a selection of colourful birdlife, while the flowering bushes are a hive of butterfly activity. At night, the pool attracts several species of frogs.
At Chebera there's currently no WiFi and only limited hot water, but plans are in place to offer both very soon. The lodge’s involvement with the local community means that there are often song and dance performances around the fire on some evenings.
