Drenmo means bear in Purigi/Ladakhi and Drenmo Lodge is the first exclusive lodge in western Ladakh to be dedicated to Himalayan brown bear tourism.
Dremno Lodge is located in one of the best places in India for observing Himalayan brown bear in the remote Holiyal village in Mushkow Valley.
The lodge began hosting guests in 2016, originally comprised of a number of homestays with the goal of increasing brown bear tourism in the area to show the local community the economic benefits of living with the bears, following issues with human-bear conflict. A local dedicated team of in-house naturalists and spotters ensure that maximum wildlife viewing is achieved throughout your stay.
The current lodge was established in an existing home of a local and has been refurbished with modern amenities and décor. Six heated rooms, two with mountain views, are well-appointed with en suite facilities and are the perfect place to relax after a chilly day searching for wildlife on the surrounding slopes. Hot and cold running water is available between May and October, and during April and November hot and cold water is provided by bucket.
Communal areas consist of a comfortable lounge and a dining space with outdoor deck, where guests can enjoy their meals or a drink at the end of the day as they watch the sunset over the spectacular mountain range. Meals consist of simple home style food with a mix of local, North Indian, Chinese, Tibetan and continental snacks and dishes. The lodge has no credit card facility.
